In 1995 when I got married I had told my husband that I wanted a dog. I had never had a dog before, so this was going to be as
interesting as being married. My husband Don had been raised around Brittanys through out his childhood, so that was the breed we
went with. I was so excited about getting a dog, I had no clue what impact my first dog would really have on my life.
By having Christian, a new world as a dog owner opened up for me and my husband. We had no children at the time so
this puppy was our baby. I learned about training and doing basic obedience with Chris, it was awesome how he responded, and his
eagerness to please.
At the young age of seven Chris was bitten by a snake, and didn't survive the bite. One week before Chris passed our first show
puppy arrived from Jayhawker Brittanys in Canada. Our little girl Dixie Belle. Having Dixie helped with Christian's passing, it gave us
hope for the future. We miss him dearly.
Shortly after Dixie arrived we were starting to take notice of the breed itself, not just a family pet. I had shown interest in showing,
and was being taught by some close friends about confirmation. Dixie and I went to our first show in Sept. of 2002, that weekend she
won her first point and I was hooked on showing dogs. Hence the beginning of Dontas Kennels.
Dixie and I traveled all over, and went to places I wouldn't have normally gone too. I love to compete, and Dixie loved to be out with
other Brittany's and people. In May 2004 our next star arrived in the household. Gabriel from Triumphant Kennels in New Hampshire.
Gabriel was named after the Arch Angel, he has indeed been an angel in my life. Gabriel and Dixie were like to peas in a pod. Dixie
being older took the mothering role, and he didn't mind one bit. Gabriel is a ladies man, loves all girls canine and human.
In July of 2006 we did our first breeding with Dixie and Gabriel, eight beautiful puppies were whelped. They were the most adorable
things I had seen since Chris was a puppy. To watch them grow, and see how the little personalities started to show through those
little faces and bodies. Our puppies went all over the US and British Columbia. My goal as a breeder is first and foremost to have
wonderful homes for my pups, and I feel we did a wonderful job finding the perfect fit for each of them.
From that litter of eight pups, three of them will continue the legacy of their Sire and Dam. By showing, hunting, and fulfilling the
Brittany Standard. Our dogs have taken me so many places in my life. From having my first Bred By Exhibitor Champion, to going to
Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City, and going to Oregon to see one of my pups. I can only look towards the
future for the wonderful places that we will go because of our dogs.
